Furman University is well on its way to having another year of record applications for its incoming freshman class. As of Friday, Furman had received 4,607 applications for next year’s freshman class, outpacing the record high established last year for the 2009-10 freshman class.
This fall’s freshman class will number approximately 720 along with 30 transfers.
“We are very pleased to see an increase not only in the number of applications, but also in the academic caliber of the students applying,” said Bill Berg, Furman’s vice president for enrollment. “It’s gratifying to know that good high school students continue to value the educational opportunities that Furman provides.”
Furman received 520 early decision applications from students who indicated the university was one of their top choices. total of 247 early decision students have been admitted to the class. The university will send out its regular decision acceptance letters on March 15.
In other news, the “Because Furman Matters” campaign now total $302 million. The $400 million fundraising campaign, which is focused on boosting the university’s endowment, is the largest ever by a private university in South Carolina. It is scheduled to end June 30, 2011.
