Erskine College and Seminary President Randall Ruble announced his retirement effective June 30 at a recent board of trustees meeting.
Board Chairman Scott Mitchell said he hopes to announce Ruble's successor in May.
Ruble told the board he was grateful for the opportunity to serve his alma mater as its 14th president and went on to praise the first lady who has assisted him.
“One of the greatest things that has happened in my life is marrying my wife, Molly, 51 years ago,” he told the board in thanking the music department for its concert in honor of the Rubles the night before. “I thank God for that gift.”
Ruble served Erskine in many capacities through the years. He also has served the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in various roles, including a stint as moderator of the General Synod.
“One of the great honors and privileges of my life has been serving as president of this institution,” he said. “It really is a calling.”
Ruble took the opportunity to recognize his executive assistant, Judy Burts, who will be retiring at the same time as Ruble after 44 years of service to Erskine.
“As I speak to you for the last time, I want to thank her publicly,” Ruble said.
Mitchell said the board has a meeting tentatively scheduled in May and that he is hopeful the primary topic of business will be to announce Erskine College and Seminary’s 15th president.
