Year-to-date home sales up 14.6%

Greenville area home sales for the first half of 2010 are up 14.6%, according to new figures from the Greater Greenville Association of Realtors.

There were 3,569 single-family, condominiums or townhouses sold from Jan. 1 to Jun. 30, compared to 3,115 homes for the same period in 2009. The average price is up 3.8% to $172,621 and the median home price is up 3.3% to $144,000.

It took two more days on average to sell a home in the first half of 2010. During the same period in 2009, homes were on the market an average 102 days before being sold.

If the second half of 2010 should mirror the first half, it will surpass the 6,785 total homes sold in 2009 by more than 350. There were 8,021 homes sold in 2008 and 10,058 sold in 2007.

The current level of activity is also up. There are 7,590 active units today compared to 7,062 units on July 10, 2009. The average price of $252,463 and median price of $177,900, however, are lower by 6.8% and 6.4%, respectively, compared to 2009 figures.
