Upstate Weekend for Feb. 23-26

Skippyjon Jones
What: Based on the popular children’s books series, Skippyjon Jones comes to life in this musical. It’s recommended for grades K-3.
When: Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. and noon.
Where: Peace Center, 300 S. Main St., Greenville.
Cost: Tickets cost $8 at the door.

Canadian Culture Night
What: The International Center of the Upstate and the Upstate Global Professionals will host the Canadian Culture Night event. David Wilkins, former U.S. Ambassador to Canada, will be the keynote speaker.
When: Thursday, 5:30 p.m.
Where: The Loft at Falls Park, 631 S. Main Street, Greenville.
Cost: Free to all UGP members and $20 for guests. Reserve a spot.

Flicks for Thought — The Last Mountain
What: The Flicks for Thought independent film series is a partnership between the Greenville Organic Foods Organization and Upstate Forever. Throughout February, film screenings and a light reception will be held every Thursday evening, and a new matinee screening will be held each Sunday.
When: Thursday, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m.
Where: Upcountry History Museum, 540 Buncombe St., Greenville.
Cost: $5 per person. Get tickets here. Seating is limited to 65 people.

Memphis
What: Memphis is the winner of four 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. This Broadway musical is filled with the underground dance clubs of the 1950s in Memphis, Tenn.
When: Thursday and Sunday, 7:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m.
Where: Peace Center, 300 S. Main St., Greenville.
Cost: Tickets range from $45 to $75. Buy tickets.

Salsa Night
What: Salsa Greenville hosts a salsa lesson. No partner required.
When: Thursday, 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Where: Studio 54, 3715 E. North St., Greenville.
Cost: $5 per person.

African-American Artists of Spartanburg
What: The Chapman Cultural Center hosts an exhibit featuring African American artists of Spartanburg and collections of local African American paintings, pottery and sculptures.
When: Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Chapman Cultural Center, 200 E. Saint John St., Spartanburg.
Cost: $4 for adults; $3 for seniors and veterans; and $2 for kids.

Upstate History Museum Family Night
What: Bring the family to watch Night at the Museum starring Ben Stiller and then tour the museum after lights out. Bring a flashlight. Family crafts will take place after the tour.
When: Friday, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Where: Upstate History Museum, 540 Buncombe St., Greenville.

Friday Starry Nights: Oasis in Space
What: The Roper Mountain Science Center in Greenville hosts shows at the Daniel Observatory to observe the stars and planets seen through the eighth largest telescope of its kind in the nation.
When: Friday, 7 p.m. or 8:15 p.m.
Where: Roper Mountain Science Center, 402 Roper Mountain Road, Greenville.
Cost: $5 for adults and $4 for children, ages 5 to 12, and for senior citizens, age 60 and older.

Alchemy Improv Comedy
What: Alchemy Improv Comedy entertains audiences every Friday night with a different guest storyteller each week. It’s fully improvised.
When: Friday, 9:30 to 10:45 p.m.
Where: Coffee Underground, 1 E. Coffee St., Greenville.
Cost: $5 per person. Get tickets at the door.

Peace Center Chinese Cultural Celebration
What: The Peace Center hosts a celebration of the Chinese culture, featuring local Chinese dancers, musicians and craftsman.
When: Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.
Where: Peace Center, 300 S. Main St., Greenville.

Miss SMC Pageant
What: Spartanburg Methodist College will host its annual Miss SMC Pageant. The Miss SMC winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship and will go on to compete for the Miss South Carolina crown.
When: Saturday, 7 p.m.
Where: Camak Auditorium, Spartanburg Methodist College, 1000 Powell Mill Road, Spartanburg.
Cost: $5 at the door.

Coffee and Poetry at Coffee Underground
What: Bring your own poems to read or perform. Beginners welcome. All poetry styles welcome.
When: Sunday, 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Where: Coffee Underground, 1 E. Coffee St., Greenville.
Cost: $5 per person.
