The Ethisphere Institute named Milliken & Co. as one of the 2012 World’s Most Ethical Companies for the sixth consecutive year.
Ethisphere reviewed hundreds of companies. A record 145 companies made the list this year from more than 30 industries. There are no numbered rankings. The companies are chosen by industry. See the full list here.
Since the list's inception, 23 companies have made the list all six years including: Aflac, American Express, Fluor, General Electric, Milliken & Co., Patagonia, Rabobank and Starbucks, among others.
Milliken was recognized for business practices and initiatives that benefit both the company and the community, while setting ethical standards for the industry.

The methodology includes reviewing codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories; evaluating the investment in innovation and sustainable business practices; looking at activities designed to improve corporate citizenship; and studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers.
“A strong ethical foundation is a competitive advantage, and Milliken recognizes the important role corporate responsibility plays in improving its bottom line,” said Alex Brigham, Ethisphere Institute’s executive director.
Milliken specializes in specialty chemical, floor covering and performance materials. Milliken Chemical, a division of Milliken & Co., is a supplier of coatings, specialty chemicals and advanced additive and colorant technologies used in paints, petroleum, plastics, textiles and fibers for a broad range of consumer and industrial applications.
The research-based Ethisphere Institute is a think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability. Ethisphere Magazine, which publishes the World’s Most Ethical Companies Ranking, is the institute’s quarterly publication.
