Five South Carolina construction contractors are among the top contractors in the Southeast, in the latest ranking from ENRSoutheast, a division of Engineering News Record.
The largest South Carolina company to make the list was M.B. Kahn Construction Co. Inc. of Columbia, with revenue of $244.98 million. M.B. Kahn was ranked No. 23 in the region. ENR's survey showed that M.B. Kahn boosted its 2011 revenue by 35% when compared with 2010.
The Harper Corp. General Contractors of Greenville ranked No. 68, with $40.42 million in 2011 revenue.
Landmark Construction Co. Inc. of North Charleston ranked No. 78, with $24.60 million in revenue.
O'Neal Inc. of Greenville ranked No. 83, reporting $13.41 million in 2011 revenue.
Onyx Construction Group of Charleston ranked No. 91, with $800,000 in 2011 revenue.
The largest contractor in the multistate region was Charlotte-based KBR, with revenue of $987.28 million in 2011. Eleven other Charlotte-based companies made the list of top contractors in the region.
ENR said participation in the magazine's annual survey declined again, with just 91 firms responding this year, about half the 175 firms that were ranked three years ago.
ENR said the total regional revenue from projects located in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas edged up to $16.3 billion from $16.1 billion a year earlier. That raised the average revenue to $179.25 million from $153.6 million a year ago.
