Brandon Downey will serve as COO for the Mary Black Health System.

Downey will be responsible for overall operations, reporting directly to CEO Douglas Moyer. He previously served as COO at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon, Miss., and held the same position at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville.

A South Carolina native, Downey earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Newberry College and an MBA from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Downey also served in the 111th Signal Battalion of the S.C. Army National Guard from 1998-2006 and completed a tour in Baghdad, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“Brandon’s vast skill set is evident, both in his hospital experience and his time serving our country,” Moyer said. “He also brings the talent and energy to ensure success as an effective leader of our day-to-day operations, while contributing to the continual process of refining our strategic focus and accomplishing our long term goals.”

Downey said the opportunity for professional growth at Mary Black and the chance to return to his home state was enticing.

“I’ve been impressed with Mary Black’s commitment to quality patient care,” Downey said. “The courtesy shown to our patients by our physicians and associates has been evident from day one. This is also verified from our consistently high patient satisfaction scores. I look forward to being a part of an outstanding team.”
