Food Lion donated $5,000 worth of food from its stores to help Spartanburg-area families.
Second Harvest Food Bank and Food Lion volunteers unloaded the truck Tuesday filled with non-perishable store brand products to help needy families.
As part of Feeding America, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina serves 19 counties in North and South Carolina. In fiscal year 2010-2011, it distributed 37 million pounds of food and grocery items to approximately 650 hunger-feeding agencies.
Food Lion, based in Salisbury, N.C., is a company of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Brussels-based Delhaize Group. It operates more than 1,100 supermarkets.
