Public comments sought on state transportation funding plans

Staff Report
Published Aug. 22, 2012

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on proposed funding plans for its 2013 federal aid and mass transit programs.

The proposed plan for the federal aid program reflects appropriations included in the new federal transportation legislation, called Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century or MAP-21.

Overall, appropriations for the federal aid program have been reduced to $756 million in fiscal year 2013 from $813 million in fiscal year 2012.

The proposed funding plan for mass transit programs also reflects appropriation projections in MAP-21. The legislation changes many of the Federal Transit Administration programs to include consolidation and establishment of new formula-based programs.

Details, pie charts and category definitions are available for public review online.

Comments will be accepted until Sept. 4.
