Spartanburg-based Synalloy Corp. said Wednesday that subsidiary Bristol Metals LLC received a contract to develop six miles of water pipe for a nuclear project led by Bechtel Corp.

Details were not released. Bechtel has a number of energy-related projects under way around the world, including the construction of a nuclear-power reactor in Tennessee and a waste-treatment plant at the site of a former nuclear facility in Washington state.

Bristol Metals, which manufactures pipe at a facility in Tennessee, will provide Bechtel with fusion-bond, epoxy-coated pipe with pipe bends, fittings and flanges, Synalloy said in a news release. Synalloy said the pipe will be used for water service related to nuclear safety.

Production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter and should be completed in the middle of 2013.
