Guild’s Monthly Art Exhibit: Jane Nodine
What: The Artists’ Guild of Spartanburg will host member Jane Nodine’s exhibit, Thermal Response. Nodine’s primary medium is encaustic wax, a mixture of wax and resin that has a history of applications dating back to ancient Egypt.
When:
Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.
Where:
Chapman Cultural Center, 200 E. St. John St., Spartanburg.
Cost:
Free and open to the public.

Anderson Farmers Market
What: A farmers market featuring locally grown produce, foods and flowers.
When: Thursday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon.
Where: Market Pavilion, 409 N. Main St., Anderson.
Cost: Free.

Junior League of Spartanburg: 24th Annual Santa’s Shoppe
What: Shop more than 60 specialty merchants and boutiques. Proceeds benefit Junior League of Spartanburg community projects.
When: Friday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium, 385 N. Church St., Spartanburg.
Cost: Free.

Friday Starry Nights
What: The Roper Mountain Science Center hosts shows at the Daniel Observatory to observe the stars and planets seen through the eighth largest telescope of its kind in the nation.
When: Friday, 7 or 8:15 p.m.
Where: Roper Mountain Science Center, 402 Roper Mountain Road, Greenville.
Cost: $5 for adults; $4 for children, ages 5 to 12, and for senior citizens, age 60 and older.

Alchemy Improv Comedy
What: Alchemy Improv Comedy entertains audiences every Friday night with a different guest storyteller each week. It’s fully improvised. The early show will feature the cast of Alchemy Comedy.
When: Friday, 8 and 9:30 p.m.
Where: Coffee Underground, 1 E. Coffee St., Greenville.
Cost: $5 per person for the 8 p.m. show and $8 per person for the 9:30 p.m. show. Get tickets at the door.

Hub City Farmers Market
What: A market featuring locally grown produce, foods and flowers.
When: Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon.
Where: Magnolia Street Train Depot, Spartanburg.
Cost: Free.

Sculptures and Design in Wood
What: A show and competition of some of the best wood carvers in the Upstate. The theme is “Wild Wild West.” The carvers will present a hand-carved eagle head cane to a wounded veteran from the Afghanistan War on Saturday.
When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Ray Hopkins Senior Center, 203 Corn Road, Greenville.
Cost: $1 per person.

Hub City Empty Bowls 2012
What: The Hub City Empty Bowls 2012 will benefit a Spartanburg soup kitchen. The public can attend and select their favorite bowl from hundreds on display to be filled with soup from area restaurants. All proceeds will benefit the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen.
When: Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Where: Chapman Cultural Center, 200 E. St. John St., Spartanburg.
Cost: $15 donation per person.

Meal to honor veterans, military
What: Pizza Inn of Greenville will host a free buffet for all veterans and active-duty military to honor those who serve. Valid credentials or military identification is required.
When:
Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Where:
Pizza Inn of Greenville, 2001 Woodruff Road, Greenville.
Cost:
Free.

Coffee and Poetry at Coffee Underground
What: Bring your own poems to read or perform. Beginners welcome. All poetry styles welcome.
When: Sunday, 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Where: Coffee Underground, 1 E. Coffee St., Greenville.
Cost: $5 per person.
