RMF announced plans to expand its operations at The Matrix, a Greenville County business and technology park, the Greenville Area Development Corp. announced Wednesday.

After considering the expansion for five years, RMF will invest $13 million to build a custom facility in the park and generate at least 20 jobs over the next three years. RMF is an electroplating and electrocuting job shop that serves the automotive, heavy truck and industrial equipment sectors.

“Ultimately combining all of our operations at The Matrix is an important part of the successful future we envision and this expansion will help to make us even more competitive,” RMF President John Pazdan said in a news release. “South Carolina has provided us with an excellent business climate and the skilled talent we require.”

RMF currently operates two facilities in Greenville County. It could eventually combine all operations at the new Matrix facility, which will be 85,000 square feet with the capacity to expand to more than 200,000 square feet. Some of the current associates will transition to the new facilities over time.

“Manufacturing in the Southeast has rebounded recently with the U.S., German, Japanese and Korean automotive assembly plants all doing well,” Roy said. “We also are seeing opportunities within the heavy truck and industrial equipment markets. This new facility will also allow us to increase our presence in the growing aerospace industry. Our strategy is to reach out into new arenas, and this expansion will certainly enable us to do so.”

Construction on the new Matrix facility at 1515 Old Grove Road in Piedmont is under way and is expected to be operational by June.

“Their decision to expand and consolidate operations at The Matrix Park is an important affirmation of this region’s focus on growing our automotive and aerospace clusters,” said Butch Kirven, the Greenville Area Development Corp. director and Greenville County Council chairman, in a news release.

Located in southern Greenville County, the Matrix Park is a 1,100-acre, master-planned park with an industrial-2 zoning classification designed for industry, warehouse and distribution operations, research and development, and headquarters campus facilities. Current tenants include GE Aviation, JTEKT, Gordon Food Service and The Blood Connection.

Founded in 1961 as Roy Metal Finishing, RMF is a corrosion-resistant coating job shop in the Southeast that provides zinc and zinc alloy electroplating, electrocoating, zinc phosphating and passivation.

Since expanding its services to the automotive market, RMF executives have focused on automating processes and chemical controls; introducing sustainable corrosion protection for metal parts; and delivering electroplating throughout the Southeast.
