Greenville-based Michelin North America announced a $73 million expansion of its truck-tire plant in Waterville, Nova Scotia.
Michelin said the expansion is expected to result in the creation of 50 jobs. Capital investments in equipment improvements and increased production capacity will be made over the next four to five years, the company said.
The company also is expanding its Lexington and Anderson county facilities to meet growing demand for tires. Michelin announced plans in April to invest $750 million at the two South Carolina sites to boost production of the massive tires used on earthmover equipment.
The project in Nova Scotia will support growing demand for wide-based tire products like the Michelin X One tire used for commercial trucking in North America.
Opened in 1982, Michelin’s Waterville plant manufactures radial truck and off-the-road tires and heavy-duty earthmover tires.
