Upstate Forever honors conservationists

Upstate Forever recently honored six conservationists at its ForeverGreen Annual Awards Luncheon.

The awards were presented to the following individuals and organizations for contributions in the areas of land protection, air and water quality, sustainable development, public service and volunteer work:

  • Tommy Wyche Land Conservation Champion Award: Shea Airey
  • Sustainable Communities Champion Award: The Greenville Hospital System
  • Clean Water Champion: John Lane
  • Clear Skies Champion: Furman Community Conservation Corps
  • Public Servant of the Year: Paul Agnew
  • Volunteer of the Year: Jon Schultz

“These champions have done exceptional work in making the Upstate a greener, cleaner and more sustainable region,” said Brad Wyche, executive director of Upstate Forever, in a news release. “The luncheon is an opportunity to recognize and thank them for their leadership and accomplishments.”

Nell Newman, president and co-founder of Newman’s Own Organics, delivered the keynote address at the event. Newman spoke about the importance of organic foods and shared her perspective on why living an environmentally conscious life helps everyone.

Upstate Forever is a nonprofit organization promoting sensible growth and protecting special places in the Upstate.
