Construction on a retail-commercial-residential development at North Main Street and Stone Avenue will start next fall, a spokesman for the developer said after the Greenville City Council approved the project Monday (.pdf). The Beach Co. – Charleston is investing at least $20 million in the 4.5-acre site.
The development will have retail and commercial on the ground level with residential above. Doyle said the project is being developed in accordance with suggestions made at meetings with neighborhood leaders.
City Council members approved the project with no dissenting votes.
The property was purchased from the estate of Fred Collins. John D. Gray Jr., who handled the sale for the Collins family, has said it included 13 parcels and was listed by NAI Earle Furman.
The Beach Co. also has plans for a mixed-use development on a 21.1-acre site at the intersection of University Ridge and Church Street in downtown Greenville.
Doyle has said the focus that Greenville leaders have on Main Street and the walkability of downtown contributed to the company’s choice of locations.
He said Tuesday that the Southeast generally is a good growth location, as it has a favorable business climate and is “an area people want to move to.”
