Dan Adam’s contribution to the school to endow the Adams Foundation Endowed Scholarship will serve students for generations to come, according to a University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville news release.

The donor did not want to disclose the amount of the “generous contribution,” the school said.

The contribution will help Greenville’s medical school grow its mission as it enters its second decade as a school of medicine where education is driven by a hands-on, holistic, patient-centered focus, the release said.

“This endowed scholarship will directly impact the lives of students, opening pathways to dedicated future physicians who might otherwise not have had an opportunity to advance in a medical career,” said USC School of Medicine Greenville Dean Dr. Marjorie Jenkins. “Our mission to ‘Transform Medicine One Doctor at a Time’ begins with our medical students, and this transformative gift will help to propel that mission and, in turn, improve the health and wellbeing of the residents of our community and beyond.”

The C. Dan Adams Lecture Hall is a state-of-the-art 200-seat facility in the Health Sciences Education building on the campus at 607 Grove Road. In 2022, the school was recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for its continuous innovation in learning, teaching and the school environment, according to the release.

“I think School of Medicine Greenville’s emphasis on emergency medicine and reaching the population where they are at will be meaningful in addressing our communities’ health needs and understanding people where they are every day and what they face,” said Adams. “I hope through that, they develop a sense of empathy, as trained physicians that they never forget the people and the community and where they come from.”

In 1991, Adams founded The Capital Corp, where he serves as president and CEO. In addition to the USC School of Medicine Greenville, Adams has committed his time and expertise to several Upstate organizations, including USC, USC Upstate, the Greenville Museum Association, Artisphere and others, providing opportunities of growth across the Upstate.

“Health care is at the forefront of economic development,” said Adams. “Our employees need and deserve first rate health care. As an employer we can see that the health care system nationally is challenged in many areas. I hope many business leaders will step up and help stand in the gap in areas they can to help our health care community to both improve and thrive in a time of change in the health care industry. Greenville is such a wonderful place to live and raise a family. We all need to work hard and keep our medical community the best that it can be.”
